Ayurveda is an ancient system of natural healthcare originiating in India over five-thousand years ago. It's considered to be one of the leading forms of holistic healthcare throughout the world. The word Ayurveda, comes from a compound of two Sanskrit words, AYUS meaning "life" and VEDAS meaning "knowledge". Thus, Ayurveda roughly translates to "knowledge of life".

Ayurvedic massage is a form of treatment for various age-related and other common disorders. Some of the noted benefits are: pain and stress relief, improved circulation, better sleep, flexibility and emotional balance. Ayurvedic massage varies based upon a persons "dosha" (Body/Mind type). Most of us have one or two doshas that have a greater influence in our nature, with the remaining dosha(s) being less significant.

The three doshas are known as Vata (Air), Pitta (Fire), and Kapha (Water/Earth). By massaging you with your dosha in mind, the therapist can better address specific issues i.e. soothe pain, relax stiff muscles, reduce swelling associated with arthritis and relieve everyday tension. Advocates claim that with Ayurvedic massage deep seated toxins in the joints and muscles are loosened and released in to the system for elimination through natural toxin release processes.
